博士研究生:Yonggang Liu, The pain of ureter caused by kidney stone.
Kidney stone is a kind of deposits in urine generating in kidney when the concentration of some ions (e.g. Ca2+ , PO43+, C2O42- ) in urine exceeded the normal level. Generally, the small kidney stones can pass through the ureter spontaneously, but the larger ones could be stuck in ureter and cause drastic pain.
In clinical practice, the urologists can not evaluate the pain the patients suffered caused by kidney stone. In order to find a way to objectively evaluate the pain level caused by kidney stone, I introduced the famous H-H (Hodgkin-Huxley) model. The model equivalently deemed the membrane of the neuron as a capacitor to investigate the response of the voltage across the membrane under external stimulation. The more frequently the voltage changed, the higher the pain level would be.
In the next work, I will calculate the stress (i.e., the stimulation) in ureter caused by the kidney stone, then based on the H-H model to objectively obtain the pain level caused by kidney stone.
